The Story

From our Importer:

  • Single malt Scotch whisky selected and bottled by Single Cask Nation
  • Cask #160416
  • 100% peated barley
  • Distilled at Bunnahabhain [buh•nah•HAV•enn] Distillery on Islay, Scotland
  • Aged 10 years total; matured 6 years in ex-bourbon and finished for 4 years in a first-fill Pedro XimĂ©nez hogshead made from American oak
  • Distilled October 2013 and bottled August 2024
  • 215 bottles produced
  • A bright nose of Jolly Ranchers, Gala apples, fresh-cut meadow, and wood smoke leads to a rush of coal dust on the palate tempered by black plums, black cherry skin, passion fruit, and pomegranate seeds with a lingering finish of blackcurrant jam, sweet vermouth, and soft smoke
  • No added coloring
  • Non-chill filtered; bottled at a cask strength of 58.9% ABV

Founded in 1881 and one of the most iconic distilleries on Islay, Bunnahabhain has seen a spike in popularity over the last five years. The distillery’s tall pot stills (the tallest on the island) are used to make a light and fruity spirit, and though Bunnahabhain weights its production in favor of unpeated whisky, this single cask utilizes the distillery’s peated marque, known internally as “Staoisha” [stow•EE•sha], further distinguishing this gem.
