$5.40The Story
This 100% Gamay is grown 40 kilometers northwest of Lyon in the cru of Les Pierres Dorées, known for having clay and limestone soils very similar to those found in the very best plots of red and white Burgundy. The wine is more Burgundian than it is Beaujolais, where the soils are dominated by nutrient poor granite. Of course, the wine is simpler than some of the best Burgundy around, but not to worry, as Domaine Romy has produced a deliciously juicy red that is ready to drink now. Pair it with light cuts of salumi or semi-hard cheeses, fresh fruit, and anything else your picnic calls for.
